Murphy Paul - Chief of Police
The Fowler's Take
Today, Murphy Paul, Chief of Baton Rouge police, gave an update on crime in Baton Rouge and concluded that significant crimes in Baton Rouge had seen an overall reduction since last year. While there’s lots of work to continue to make our city a safe place to live for all, Baton Rouge is one of the few cities in the country trending toward reduced significant crimes. The Chief concluded with a personal story of a childhood friend from the same background and area as the chief. His friend ended up in Angola, where Chief Murphy experienced a stellar career at the Louisiana State Police and became Police Chief. He listed three essential factors that made all the difference in his life.
#1. Education
There was a standard at home. There wasn’t an option to not get an education.
#2. Three “Cs"
Control, consequences, and Choices - family taught him how to control his emotions. There was a Fear of disappointing his mother, family, and most importantly himself.
#3. Three “Fs”
Faith and Family First - Kids don’t have a fear of God “where’s the church?” Families are still experiencing generational PDSD from when our society viewed drugs as a crime and not as a disease. We must do something different to inspire families to be involved with their kid's education and life lessons. With their kids education and teaching them life skills to create a meaningful life
